چکیده
Tropical cyclones (TCs) before landfall deserve great concerns, which directly affect the following forecasts and alarm-issuing. In 1949–2021, nearly 29% of total number TCs that originated over western North Pacific (WNP) South China Sea (SCS) made in China. Of them, those from WNP display a significantly lower (higher) ratio making (south China) (the second year after) El Niño years. At 48 h landfall, TC centers significant inter-annual variations zonal direction, but only additionally show inter-decadal meridional are probably attributed to Niño–Southern Oscillation large-scale environment both ocean atmosphere. Once they move into distance ~660 km (~900 km) away south southeast (east) coastlines China, probability subsequent 24 is increasing. 3 days decreasing (increasing) uncertainty translation speed (moving direction) as moved close land, regardless either origination or destination. general, moving direction west-northwestward dominates majority if WNP, exhibits clockwise rotation trend tends faster approached land. comparison, stayed SCS largest most frequent abnormal tracks. For intensity (maximum wind speed), generally stronger than SCS. Their intensities vary range −5 m s−1 5 each connective 6 east uncertainty. particular, attention should be paid originating approaching future, rapid intensification occurred with frequency occurrence after years period investigated.

Tropical Cyclone Intensity Change before U.S. Gulf Coast Landfall
Tropical cyclone intensity change remains a forecasting challenge with important implications for such vulnerable areas as the U.S. coast along the Gulf of Mexico. Analysis of 1979–2008 Gulf tropical cyclones during their final two days before U.S. landfall identifies patterns of behavior that are of interest to operational forecasters and researchers. Tropical storms and depressions strengthen...
متن کاملThe Effect of Tropical Cyclone Characteristics on U.S. Landfall Probability
When a tropical cyclone threatens the coastline, decision makers can take preparatory actions designed to mitigate the damage caused by landfall. Those in this situation must decide whether and when to begin their preparations. Regnier and Harr have developed a dynamic decision model in which the decision maker has the option of delaying preparation and waiting for an updated, more accurate for...
متن کاملA Geospatial Analysis of Convective Rainfall Regions Within Tropical Cyclones After Landfall
In this article, the author utilizes a GIS to spatially analyze radar reflectivity returns during the 24 hours following 43 tropical cyclone (TC) landfalls. The positions of convective rainfall regions and their areal extent are then examined according to storm intensity, motion, vertical wind shear, time until extratropical transition, time after landfall, and distance from the coastline. As f...
متن کاملClouds in Tropical Cyclones
Clouds within the inner regions of tropical cyclones are unlike those anywhere else in the atmosphere. Convective clouds contributing to cyclogenesis have rotational and deep intense updrafts but tend to have relatively weak downdrafts. Within the eyes of mature tropical cyclones, stratus clouds top a boundary layer capped by subsidence. An outward-sloping eyewall cloud is controlled by adjustm...
متن کاملThe Dynamics of Tropical Cyclones
The specific objectives of the current effort are: 1. To continue our study of the dynamical processes in tropical cyclones responsible for looping or erratic motion; 2. To continue the development of methods for (a) the introduction of synthetic tropical-cyclone-scale vortices in operational forecast models and (b) ensemble forecasting of tropical cyclones; 3. To continue a sensitivity study o...
